Rob Fitch Latest News Letter May 2020 :
To all of our Members at Mayland it has been a tough month for us and the world throughout with this torrid Covid 19 virus still very much part of our lives currently that has totally disrupted our everyday lives.
The main thing for us all to remember is the social distancing is to support not only the front line workers but our family let alone ourselves to come out of the lockdown period intact.
The above is no more than a reminder so can I ask all members to continue to refrain from playing a few sneaky holes within this lockdown period that apparently is still happening at Maylands.
I have managed to speak to Gordon and Darren in the past few days and both have stated as yet neither have received any further positive confirmation of a date when the Government is set to reopen the Golfing world albeit on a social distancing basis.
The reports received back is that our green keepers have continued to maintain our course
and I’m told it is looking in very good condition although a splash of rain would not do it any harm as I’m sure the keen gardeners amongst us would endorse.
Our greens apparently will require a little extra TLC but I am confident Paul and his team have this in their schedule of works and in hand for our eventual return whenever that will be.
A special word of thanks to Chris Gladwin who has taken on a personal challenge to create and build a Memorial Garden on the approach to the 1st Tee which he has taken on single handed and is still work in progress however looking forward to seeing this on my own return in full bloom.
Finally we are planning that upon our return, despite losing a number of both club and inter club competitions on our return and after the club fully opens we plan to have a fun day full of Golf, either a Saturday or a Sunday with all members invited to play with a running buffet followed by evening entertainment with spouses invited to come along to reunite our club on the reopening.
I close by saying stay safe and please let’s observe the rules for the good of all.
